I would just like to state how grateful I am to live in the United States. Sure our economy is not perfect right now and there are politicians in office that we wonder if they know what they are doing, but the important thing is that we have freedom and liberty at a level the rises above the rest of the world.
I have been taking an American Foundations class this semester and it has been truly great to be reminded of the steps it took to get to where we are today. The Declaration of independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on this day 235 years ago. The declaration of independence was the beginning of our country's journey to obtain liberty and freedom. I truly feel that the men who wrote and fought for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were divinely inspired by our Heavenly Father. It is no coincidence that Lehi, a prophet of the Book of Mormon, and his family were brought to this "promised land" which would later be settled by British men who fought for independence and formed a free country.
Other steps that our country has taken for freedom are religious amendments to the constitution that allow religious freedom, the civil war and civil rights movements, countless wars fought to protect our freedom and liberty, and the people of America uniting to preserve our constitutional rights. Only through a majority of public virtue and unity can we preserve our natural rights and our constitutional rights.
I am grateful for the countless men and women who have risked and freely given their lives so that we can freely preserve ours. These men and women are so brave and fight valiantly for what is most important. Yes, some wars are silly, but our people are in the right mind to fight for our freedom. So thank you to all people who fight and for those who support those who fight. Our freedom is greater than life and each person must fight for that freedom in whatever way seems fit to their abilities. United we stand, and united we must be to uphold the vision that our founding fathers formed over 200 years ago.God bless America and its people, and God Bless our eternal war for freedom.
